The Delhi Police has granted permission to the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) to hold a protest at Jantar Mantar today, allowing founder Abhijeet Dipke and supporters to assemble directly at the site from 10 am to 5 pm.
The upcoming demonstration marks a significant moment for the CJP, which has recently gained attention for its unconventional approach to political activism. Officials stated that the permission was granted after a careful review of the party’s application and assurance of a peaceful gathering. Security arrangements have been heightened in the area, with barricades set up and additional police personnel deployed to ensure the event proceeds without incident.
Abhijeet Dipke, who arrived in Delhi early Saturday morning from the United States, was reportedly met by police officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 3 after clearing immigration. Following discussions, the police approved the demonstration, prompting the CJP to redirect protesters straight to Jantar Mantar instead of the originally planned gathering at Parliament Street Police Station.
Sources close to the party revealed that the decision to allow the protest at Jantar Mantar was welcomed by CJP leaders, who believe the location will help amplify their message. The party has been vocal about issues such as government transparency, protection of democratic rights, and the need for increased citizen participation in governance. Supporters have been actively mobilizing on social media, calling for a large turnout and peaceful display of solidarity.
Dipke urged supporters — referring to them as “cockroaches” — to gather peacefully at the site, carrying the Tricolour (national flag), while offering flowers to police personnel as a gesture of goodwill.
He also encouraged participants to refrain from any provocative slogans or confrontational behavior, underscoring the movement’s commitment to nonviolence. Volunteers have organized first-aid booths and information desks at the protest venue to assist attendees and ensure smooth coordination throughout the day.
He emphasised maintaining discipline, love, and peace during the protest. Core members like Saurav Das were also spotted at the location as preparations began.
Local authorities have urged commuters to avoid the Jantar Mantar area due to expected traffic diversions and crowding. Meanwhile, representatives from several civil society organizations and student groups have expressed support for the CJP’s initiative, with some planning to join the demonstration later in the day. The protest is expected to conclude with a public address by Dipke, summarizing the movement’s demands and outlining the next steps in their campaign.
